Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Happnin is a city-focused events, news, and community marketplace service operated by Daniel Pop, a sole proprietor based in the Netherlands (“Happnin”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

2. Information we collect

• Account information: if you sign in through Clerk or Google, we may receive your name, email address, profile image, and account identifier.
• City and preferences: your selected city, notification categories, and other settings used to personalise local content.
• Saved items: identifiers for events, news stories, and marketplace listings you bookmark. Signed-out bookmarks may remain only on your device.
• Notification data: a device push token and the event, news, or marketplace alerts you choose to receive.
• Content you provide: event submissions, marketplace listings, descriptions, prices, seller or organiser details, photos, moderation information, and messages sent to us.
• Payment records: transaction identifiers and payment status for paid organiser submissions. Happnin does not receive or store complete payment-card details.
• Technical information: limited server logs and diagnostic information needed for security, reliability, and troubleshooting. We do not use device fingerprinting.

Happnin does not collect your precise GPS location. You choose a city manually.

3. Public content

Events, marketplace listings, seller or organiser names, descriptions, prices, neighbourhoods, and uploaded photos may be visible publicly. Do not include sensitive personal information in content you post.

4. How and why we use information

• To provide local events, news, marketplace listings, saved items, and account features.
• To publish, review, moderate, and manage content submitted by users and organisers.
• To send notifications you request and remember your city and category choices.
• To process and verify paid organiser submissions and issue applicable refunds.
• To prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms, secure Happnin, and resolve technical problems.
• To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on performance of a contract when data is needed to provide requested features, consent for optional notifications, legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service, and legal obligations where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

5. Providers and disclosures

We use service providers only where needed to operate Happnin:

• Clerk and Google: account authentication and identity services.
• Replit: application hosting, database infrastructure, and storage for uploaded images.
• Expo: delivery of push notifications to your device.
• Paddle: checkout, payment processing, transaction verification, and refunds for paid organiser submissions when that feature is available.
• OpenAI services: limited content classification, moderation, or enrichment. Content text may be processed for these purposes; we do not intentionally send account-profile data unless you include it in submitted text.
• Event and news sources: providers such as Ticketmaster and public news feeds supply content. We do not send them your Happnin account profile merely to display their content. If you open an external link, that provider processes your visit under its own policy.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a future business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards and notice.

6. Advertising, analytics, and sales of data

Happnin currently does not run third-party advertising, behavioural advertising, analytics trackers, or session-recording tools. We do not sell personal data. If this changes, we will update this policy and implement any consent controls required by law before using those technologies.

7. Cookies and device storage

Our authentication provider may use cookies or similar storage that are strictly necessary to sign you in and keep your session secure. The app also uses local device storage for preferences and signed-out bookmarks. We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. Retention and deletion

We keep account information, active submissions, listings, preferences, and saved items while needed to provide Happnin or until deletion is requested, unless a longer period is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or payment-record obligations.

• Rejected event submissions and their unreferenced photos are scheduled for deletion after 30 days.
• Abandoned, unreferenced uploads are scheduled for deletion after 48 hours.
• Notification tokens are retained while notifications are enabled or until they are no longer needed or valid.

Happnin does not yet offer automated account deletion. To request deletion of your account or personal data, email support@happnin.info. We may retain limited records where legally required.

9. International transfers and security

Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, transfers are protected through recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. We use reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances, GDPR gives you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, to receive portable data, and to withdraw consent. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Send requests to support@happnin.info. We may need to verify your identity. You may lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your local supervisory authority.

11. Age requirement

Happnin is intended for people aged 16 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Happnin changes. We will publish the revised policy here, update the date above, and provide additional notice when required by law.
